Recommendation and its Impact to the Organization
Leadership
We will recommend creating another executive position as President and split the direct-reports to the CEO with the newly created president position. In the short-term, this change would condense and siphon information to the CEO in a concise manner since it would be coming from one source rather than having multiple sources. Long-term would ensure that the CEO has more time to concentrate on other opportunities to grow the business. However, since the information is coming from one source, it could come to the CEO in a biased manner. To ensure that this issue does not arise, we would recommend a close relationship with the CEO and the President in supporting the company’s mission. Another way would be to have a ‘dotted-line’ reporting to the CEO in a more matrix-type organization.
Diversity
Google can meet the alienation of non-minority by ensuring that all staff, including non-minorities feel valued and encouraged to celebrate diversity.
We would recommend that Google may want to look at condensing some ERGs into larger groups where more staff can participate in. This would reduce the amount of support given to multiple ERGs, but still continue to provide organizational support. The impact would be that Google would save some overhead and staff in the newly created combine ERGs would come together better than being in restricted groups.
